Welcome to video 13 out of 34, two minute videos detailing the key concepts in my new book Made to Thrive. Made to Thrive outlines the key roles that a leader must undertake to transition from being a good leader to being a great leader.
Those 5 roles are Ambassador, Accountability, Culture, Strategy, and Succession Planning.
Today we’re going to be talking about Ambassador and in particular 2.3 All employees learn Core Values and Core Purpose stories monthly from the CEO.
If Core Values tell us who we are and Core Purpose tells us why we exist, what is the purpose of Core Values and Core Purpose?
Why should we even worry about them?
The reason is a company with a clear set of values and purpose will always outperform because the team are aligned.
When the team are aligned people can be more effective and more efficient in their role.
Therefore the question is who’s job is it to ensure that all people in the business understand, or who is accountable for ensuring that everyone is clear on the values and the purpose, so that the business is aligned.
Well that’s the leader of the business, that’s their job.
That’s one of their roles, their 5 roles.
The best way to get people to understand is stories.
Because our brains evolved over tens of thousands of years not, to learn about spreadsheets and graphs but instead to learn about stories.
And stories is what draws people in, and stories is what people remember.
