Hope you’re Thriving!
It’s been a relaxing week, with some time in France with the family.
Let’s go.
Onboarded for Managers Launch Day
Today marks the official release of my new book, Onboarded for Managers.
As you would have seen during the past few weeks through these newsletters, the book aims to provide a different, more straightforward take on the main Onboarded book that busy managers can easily read and appreciate the value of the concepts, and why they should be applied within their team.
Like to know more? Here is a short video on how Onboarded For Managers helps busy managers understand why it is so important to spend the time onboarding new hires effectively. It gives managers the tools to solve the problem of new hires not sticking around because they don’t know how to succeed in their new role.

Understanding Is Forgiving
On a run the other day, I was listening to a podcast and heard a fantastic quote from Blaise Pascal that has stuck with me. “To understand is to forgive”.
As I thought further, to hate someone means you don’t really understand them.
They have a lifetime of challenges, suffering and perspectives you don’t yet understand.
Taking that even further, if the role of a manager is to grow their people, and great managers manage different people in unique ways, then a manager who is frustrated by team members might ask, “Do I really understand my team?”.
TikTok Shop Is a Real E-Commerce Threat
It’s been well established that social media companies like Facebook, YouTube and Twitter make money through advertising, whereas E-commerce companies like Amazon make money via a transaction margin. Yet TikTok is now determined to change all that, and this month, it launched a new service in the USA allowing users to sell through videos.
Indonesia offers a cautionary tale. Launched there in 2021, TikTok Shop is already poised to outsell the nation’s third-largest e-commerce company, Alibaba Group Holding Ltd.-backed Lazada, which has been around for over a decade. Users in Indonesia spend an average of an hour a day on the app, just like those in the US. TikTok Shop has been so disruptive that the Indonesian government is talking about banning e-commerce on social media platforms.
If this works, it could be the greatest threat to Amazon and e-commerce sellers, and therefore, if your business relies on e-commerce, you should consider how this might impact you.

AI Will Supercharge Workers, Not Replace Them
As we enter the fourth quarter of 2023, the way we perceive the threat of AI has changed. Earlier this year, there was a perspective that AI would replace most jobs. Now, AI seems more likely to supercharge people’s abilities for productivity and performance.
And this week, the Hollywood writer’s strike ended with an interesting deal. The contract stipulates that AI can’t be used to write or rewrite any scripts or treatments, ensures that studios will disclose if any material given to writers is AI-generated, and protects writers from having their scripts used to train AI without their say-so.
Provisions in the contract also stipulate that script scribes can use AI for themselves.
It may not last forever, but it’s a fascinating deal that may have an impact well beyond Hollywood.
